Growing your business isn't as simple as hiring more sales people to increase revenue. Sometimes the best first step is identifying wasteful process in your current operations. It's possible to have 10% to 50% of waste! That's a lot of money no matter the size of your company! If the money losing activities were fixed the earnings could be invested in hiring a new team member who can help grow the business. I believe that sustainable growth plans must focus on both operation improvements and sales/marketing improvements. To make the idea relatable- If you want a taller building (more revenue) then you will also need a stronger foundation (operation efficiency) to support it.

Common Mistake:

I've seen many organizations (big and small) adopt a concept and implement without customizing to fit the company. Each business is unique and it's rare that it will fit the latest concept without customizing. Inevitably the new idea will fail just in time for leadership to introduce the next best idea. The cycle begins again and with each failure the team loses faith and trust in the leadership creating a broken ineffective team. This applies to simple ideas such as No Meeting Wednesday to complex systems like Six Sigma.
